How Randy's Country Barn Got Started, in his own words.
(Randy L. Stief passed away October 4, 2018 at the age of 63. His family continues running the Christmas Tree Farm in his memory.) As a young boy on the way home from school I walked by a big pine tree with pine cones. I loved hearing the wind blow through the needles. I had eight brothers and sisters and Christmas was always an exciting time for my family. When I was a teenager I worked at a drug store and at Christmas they had a tree lot. I loved working at the tree lot. It was exciting working with the trees and helping the customers. I still find it enjoyable to this day. |
When my wife and I bought our home we had 4 acres and an old barn on the property. We had an acre and a half out front that didn't have a purpose. In the early spring the Conservation Dept. advertised in the local newspaper a variety of pine trees for sale. I bought and planted some, not knowing what the future would bring.
I hadn't really considered having a tree farm. I just wanted something to do with that acre and a half. When the trees started getting bigger people started to inquire about buying them. Eight years later we sold our first tree. So we turned the old barn into a Christmas Shop and bought another 33 acres of ground which we are planting and harvesting on now. We also expanded to selling pumpkins, gourds, and misc. items in the fall. |
The Randy Stief Memorial Fund
Randy loved kids, relates his sister Diana Daniken. He especially loved working at the old Junior High on Beaumont Ave., then at the new Junior High school. More often than anyone knew, Randy gave kids money to get chips, a soda or lunch. If you would like to give to The Randy Stief Memorial Fund it would be greatly appreciated. “Do it the Jays' way!”

From Gary Brauns, Greenville Jr High Principal:
Randy Stief left funds to start a “Randy Stief Memorial” fund for the Junior High. The fund will be used to purchase supplies for students who cannot afford their own and otherwise meet the needs of students at Greenville Jr. High. Recipients of funds from the account will be determined based on recommendations from teachers and staff. The account will be initially funded with the money left by Mr. Stief. Other donations may also be placed into the account. Expenditures will be made according to the criteria above.
